I spent part of this afternoon reading about a Church I have never visited, and I found myself moved by how much care goes into a single welcome. The Archdiocese of Santo Domingo formally received Monsignor Carlos Tomás Morel Diplán as its new metropolitan archbishop, and he has taken up the pastoral care of that community. I thought of how quietly such transitions shape the daily faith of so many people, and it gave me a small, steady kind of comfort. May he be given wisdom and gentleness for the road ahead, and may the faithful of Santo Domingo feel at home with him.
